Head Coach
Mick is the Head Coach and runs the training programme for pentathlon. Mick is also a GB Pentathlon & Pathway Coach. His qualifications include: *Level 3 Triathlon Coach* *Open Water Coach* *Level 3 Swimming Coach* *Laser Run Coach* Mick is an incredibly experienced and successful open water swimmer, Pentathlete and triathlete, being one of the first men to take part in Triathlon in the UK, when it was first introduced. Mick competed at a high level and gained many titles. When he isn't busy coaching our pentathletes, Mick finds time to continue his love for swimming at his local pool.
Swimming Pool Manager
Milly joined our team in Summer 2025, bringing with her three years of experience in swim instructing. Having a lifelong passion for swimming and being a former competitive swimmer, her passion for the water continues to drive her dedication towards helping others improve their technique and confidence in the water. Milly’s qualifications include: *Level 2 Swim Instructor* * Level 3 Personal Trainer* and *ICI Indoor Cycling Instructor*. When she’s not coaching, you’ll likely find Milly hiking mountain trails or wild swimming around the South Coast
Assistant Pool Manager
Niamh is a qualified swimming teacher and assistant pool Manager at Leweston, where she has worked since September 2023. In this time she has gained qualifications for Level 1 swim Coaching as well as Level 2 Babies and toddlers- and is now the Head of Swimming Development. With several years of Lifeguarding experience, she brings not only technical expertise and strong water safety knowledge but proven leadership in teaching/ coaching swimmers of all ages and abilities.
Fencing Coach
Sandra is an enthusiastic and experienced fencing coach with a proven track record of developing fencers at all levels, from beginners to competitive athletes. She is highly skilled in delivering structured training sessions, mentoring young athletes, and fostering discipline, confidence, and sportsmanship. Over the past 14 years, Sandra has worked extensively across schools in the South West, consistently producing athletes who progress into British Fencing’s Athlete Development Programme (ADP). Here at Leweston Pentathlon Academy, Sandra delivers weekly one-to-one and group sessions for both pentathletes and fencers, including support for ADP applications and competition readiness. Sandra's qualifications include: FIE Diploma (issued by the Hungarian institute of physical education) British Fencing Level 3 Épée Level 2 Foil and Sabre
Shooting Coach
Since 2011 Phil has focused his time on coaching pistol shooting and Laser Run at schools and clubs across the South West. Phil leads by example competing at Laser Run in the Masters category since 2017- representing GB at UIPM World & European Laser Run Championships. Away from competing, Phil is heavily involved with the management and delivery of the sport, holding both regional and national roles in Laser Run and Triathle, as well as being an active volunteer at club, regional, national and international level. Fencing Coach
Neale moved into coaching Epee in 2003, having competed to World Cup level for GB, and winning two Commonwealth medals for Wales. He completed his coach education with a FIE Diploma in Croatia and Hungary studying under Olympic Coach, Octavian Zidaru. Between 2012 and 2016 Neale was appointed by British Fencing as coach for the GB Junior Squad, accompanying the GB Junior team to numerous European and World Championship events. He has also managed Senior and Junior Commonwealth Teams for Wales, and has experience of coaching students at all ability levels, from beginner to Championship level. In 2023 Neale returned to competition at veteran level, qualifying for the GB team for the World Championships in Doha in 2024 and Bahrain in 2025.
Laser Run Coach
Stuart coaches Athletics and Modern Pentathlon within schools, clubs and at competitions and specialises in Endurance running coaching, with experience of coaching across most areas of track and field as well as Cross Country. From a Modern Pentathlon perspective, Stuart also shoot judges at National Qualifiers for selection for European and World championship events. Stuart particularly enjoy coaching Biathle, Triathle and Laser Run which are great grassroots entry points into Modern Pentathlon. He also finds time to volunteer for Pentathlon GB, to promote the sport to para athletes and is currently involved with an outreach programme, setup up by Leweston Pentathlon Academy, introducing the sport across local state schools. Stuart regularly coaches at various Leweston Pentathlon Academy training days and holiday camps. As a Level 2 Laser Run coach, Stuart has also worked at other independent schools offering Laser Run as an enrichment opportunity.
Shooting Coach
Alan is a fully qualified shooting coach and leads our pistol shooting sessions here at Leweston. Alan has competed for many years and continues to take part in competitions.
Shooting Coach & British Triathlon Foundation Coach
Richard has been coaching and mentoring for over 10 years, and is a volunteer Academy coach qualified in laser run and British Triathlon. He also competes in Triathle, Biathle and Laser Run events in the Masters category and has represented Team GB in the World and European Triathle and Biathle Championships. Outside of competing Richard is the Head Coach and Operations Manager for the British Army Modern Pentathlon, introducing military personnel to the sport whilst encouraging and assisting future elite athletes in reaching their full potential. Richard volunteers for PentGB, supporting their annual events and coaching in community projects.
